Every cell in my body is inclining towards the horizontal. After a week of anticipation – firstly for a settlement and then tonight for a break in the weather, I finally feel I can relax. I managed to make the PV an hour early, but a new skin of powdery snow was already settling on the county road which serves the gallery, A car in a ditch on the A614 was enough to convince me that the responsible thing to do was to ring as many people as poss to to cancel. I managed to catch Maggy as she was getting in the car and she contacted others. I was touched by the number of loyal friends who were determined to come. I was home for 6 after a crawl home.

No settlement at mediation yesterday. We soldier on. Took my work to Thorseby Gallery, part of the Thorseby Estate – in the middle of nowhere. As you can imagine the scenery is stunning, expecially with a covering of snow. The roads were passable today but the forecast for Friday’s opening is rubbish. Let’s hope it’s wrong.
We have gone through the documentation for Tuesday.,, again. It’s a tense time – but the good thing is that Jem and I are of one voice. I have a more simplistic view which Jem underpins with law and technical information. Am I hopeful of settlement? The truth is, I don’t know.
The preliminary round of David v Goliath is on Tues 5th. Rang the mediator yesterday who seems a nice chap and I felt comfortable speaking to him. He explained the format. I asked him if he knew the solicitor on the other side as I was worried about vested interests and old boys etc. I am busy painting for a 3-person show opening next Friday. Oils won’t dry in time so I’m using acrylics. Not my favoured medium but it’s going well. There is an overlap and most of my work is hanging in Derby. Also, I was notified just before Christmas that 2 recent pieces have been selected for the Nottingham Open. Phew it’s all getting hectic. I deliver the work on Weds to Thoresby. I felt really privileged to be asked by Frances Ashton, editor of LeftLion to propose an artist for readers to keep an eye out for in 2010. I nominated Sooky Huh from HMS. http://www.leftlion.co.uk/articles.cfm/id/2785
Old concrete machine plynths have been removed from the ground floor this week after work was stopped by the Harrington Factory Company over a year ago. The new floor will require insulation to meet new building regs.
