Plans for Lincoln Christmas Market are coming together, although it won’t be discussed until another LAN meeting is organised, and considering most people seem busy re-enrolling for MAs etc, that won’t be until after my stint on the plinth.
After much pondering how best to make a banner of my work for my time on the plinth (I plan to exhibit some work from my degree show in the form of a banner) I have managed to upload an updated version onto Redbubble, where I have bought my own poster to use as a banner.
I’m pleased to have started to receive support from fellow plinthers.

But I’ve just received an email to say that I won’t receive the bursary for the LAN this month until next month, so now I’m facing having to use my overdraft against my will to cover the costs and then reimburse them when the bursary comes through. I hate this, I hate it. I was adamant not to use my overdraft any more for Christmas – was brought up to believe never a borrower or lender be, but University and being a lone parent means that that’s all I can do to survive – no one will give me a paid job, there aren’t enough paid jobs out there, not to say I’m not making any effort to apply for them – one of the reasons I’m going on this plinth is because I originally applied for a job for SkyArts and didn’t get it, so I figured I may as well take advantage of being a plinther – I hope this will bring work my way. Still not received the bursary for House Of Bling.
I have received word from a fellow Plinther at the UL – she is going on Oct 11th, a few days after me and has offered mutual support :-)
I’ve decided not to go to the Council meeting tonight, as I spoke to my son’s headteacher, she told me that they’d been asked to involve the choir, but it was too close to the start of term. So any idea of getting the kids involved is impossible.
It seems the West End Gala isn’t at all well organised. I can’t realistically put something together in such a short space of time, especially considering no LAN members seem very enamoured by it.
I had an email the other today to say the venue has changed, which didn’t impress me much.
I think it’d be a better idea to concentrate on the Plinth, even though in concept the West End Gala would’ve been a good opportunity.
I haven’t a clue if I’ve received the bursary for the House Of Bling review – I sent an invoice off and have heard no reply…..
I feel as though I have loads of things I should be doing, but something’s holding me back – a distinct lack of support and paid opportunities are still sparse and difficult to attain.
I keep being told there are people with more experience. I don’t like being told this.
I have now received information regarding my acceptance onto the plinth for Antony Gormley’s One And Other.
I’ve decided how best to use the time wisely. As well as promoting the Lincoln Artist’s Network, I also need to promote my own work, so I will be doing both!!
And LAN members are accompanying me for this PR event.
I have a meeting for the West End Gala this Thursday, which is an event designed to link undergraduates coming to Lincoln University for fresher’s week and residents of the West End of the city (of which I am one) within the local community.
I’m organising an LAN art event for this, which I’m hoping will be linked to the local primary school and Kids Club that my son attends, however, now I’m supposed to be in London for the 2nd October for One And Other, this could get tricky!
I have just under a month to pull something together for that!
In other news, we are definitely having a stall at Lincoln Christmas Market.
I received an email this morning – I have been chosen to take part in Antony Gormley’s One And Other – to stand on a plinth in Trafalgar Square for an hour!! HELP!!!
