I plan on returning to my 3rd year of university ready to make ready to produce some magic there for I pledge at least 30 minutes a day on this blog talking about what ever comes to mind and obviously any work I would like to produce. Instead of hitting a brick wall like the start of last year. I am also interested in this image bellow as well.

I’m not interested in the old Cliché about constantly being watch and all of that rubbish. I am actually more interested in how I can use CCTV in an artistic manner for my own means. I have taken inspiration from Jill Magid’s work ‘Evidence Locker’

She is more interested in imbedding herself within these systems, producing a narrative. I want to request CCTV to add as part of my filming. I want to find out how I can request these images.

I must start though by asking myself where I start with this piece of work It is all good and well me wanting to find a way of using these things but no good if I have no Idea of what I want to do with them.

Magid has taken the most simple but beautiful way of doing this but I feel I can do something different with this. The question is what? and will Worcester city council allow me to use such footage?

My initial Idea is a Motif such as my quick sketch bellow

but I need to find 6 Cameras in the city to do this. I would be interested to see what happens behind me staring into the lens of a CCTV camera.

Ok enough about that.

This blog will continue to focus on that and I will talk on absurdist and the human mind.

At the moment I feel like this brick wall, I don’t know if its something to do with the mad rush at the end of University or the fact that I am unable to obtain work but my mood is a as rough and weathered as this brick wall. I cannot seem to break through it at the moment. The manner in which the paint peels away from it is about as active as my brain cells are at the moment!

I don’t know about any one else but when I am not either working or producing art work I am unable to feel completely fulfilled and I am tending to waste my days playing computer games instead of getting out there and producing something! Its frustrating!

I did however watch a fantastic film by Stuart Gordon called stuck it was based on a true story of a Homeless person who was run over and became stuck in the persons window, the driver proceeded to drive home and park the car in their garage later on to kill the man and burn the evidence. The film played on the things that happened but Gordon was able to change this also. Basically I think the film really questions the morals of humans and also the stupidity of some. An absurd true story put in the form of a dark comedy and it worked brilliantly! I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry! Well worth the watch!

any way enough of that what to do! I did indeed promise myself 30 minutes a day on this blog, that quite evidently hasn’t happened and I feel completely ashamed and disgusted with myself! I need to drag my lazy arse up and complete or start something! I have the ability but nothing pushing me completely at the moment! What I need is something to drive me forward like these guys

Wasn’t that inspirational? So what do I have to hand?

  • Black material.
  • Umbrellas.
  • My broken head prop.
  • A knife.
  • (this is starting to sound weird)
  • My black robe.
  • (my fish bowl has disappeared from university)
  • White board.
  • Bench.
  • Door.

That’s about it! Right time to start playing!

So yes I did what every student in the known universe does when starting a project or wants information on anything, I asked google shame on me! This is what google says:

But, I would like to gain more knowledge in this not just scrape the surface or get someone’s potentially un educated opinion from a certain site starting with a W and ending with an A.

Personally I believe there are two main kind of ritual:

secular

sacred (for the purpose of this blog I will count mystical as sacred as well)

secular being that ritual which has no real connection to god or the religion; something like the way me and my Dad used to go to MacDonald’s before every home game at Birmingham city FC

Sacred being that of something connected to religion; something like a marriage (?) you may disagree.

My performance work over the past year particularly those that have consisted around a audience base have spoke of a secular ritual, and some what of sacred/mystical.

The Performance lecture sees a almost sacrifice of water in the name of the gold fish bowl. The sacrifice of bread also. I would count this as Mystical as although bread has catholic/Cristian meaning for me more of the skin rather than the body itself.

Rock Paper Scissors has a secular bases not lying within the religious or mystical sphere but almost of a representation of a daily routine (?), I continually and repetitively hand out umbrellas and water to the viewers.

brings me on to circles and as you may remember from a previous post of mine I had spoken about circles and why they appeared in my work. Emma Starkey and I had spoken about that how humans had a in bread desire to produce circles rather Emma had said that it may be something to do with a connection to the womb at a cellular level.

I had spoken of cell memories but that is something Emma and Myself are going to read about and try and prove/disprove.

Two project that I am keen to keep up during the summer break along with my viual research is Narrative LTD a contemporary Public arts group focused on promoting the arts in Worcester. The group consists of Emma Starkey, an artist local to Worcester Patrick Dunn and myself, the website is found here!

Another group which I was invited into by my lecturer Mark Gubb is WXW. a group also focusing on the promotion of arts in Worcester.
