This is a reflective moment in hindsight over 3 sessions of incremental steps. A kind of swell.
In May I had my first mentoring session with Adrian Heathfield.
Adrian has a drama background that has informed a move into performance/live art.
This was a strangely abstracted affair (not un-noticed by us) which felt almost like a pitch for an idea.
Describing a piece from a theoretical perspective and how it is inscribed in the world went like this:
There is a café. There is music. There is tea and coffee. There are nibbles. There are waiters.
This is the ambience.
Menus and recipes – words describing structure and within a group of discrete actions clusters
Actions from word prompts
Writing feedback cards from action/moment prompt
It was the relationship building that felt important. It is a participatory event so there is an element of ‘being at the mercy of’. How to encourage involvement?
So far we have shown at ‘niche’ events or academic conferences around issues of dance/performance
Adrian rightly pointed out that speaking can only go so far.
The next session would necessitate setting up an approximation of the environment.
