Today I met with Christine Gist at The SPACE. I am every so excited for this oportunity.

We discussed the actual space, an impressive 19x12m, securing the works, promotions and funding.

I’l be allowed limited access to the space before instal, which is valued, and I think I’ll plot the space out at my studio too. There will be a large amount of work to do, I’m looking forward to getting started though, I enjoy a challenge and I have certainly given myself one.

It was really nice to discuss my proposal and to hear what I excelled at. Also to make notes on where I could improve in the future.

So here’s to my first project as a gradute. I look forward to keeping you updated.

In the local paper they had an advert about a new art space in the town. It had secured Arts Council funding too. So I set about creating a proposal, using all the knowledge I’d gained at unversity to enable me to write one that may get accepted.

Previously I’d sent proposals to some arts festival and fairs, all saying “Sorry, but no thanks”. It’s a good job I have a tough skin. Focused on really believing in the proposals I was writing. Asking everyone and their mother to proof read; Does this make sense? Do you get an idea of what I’m trying to say? Do I seem too vague?

And I have been accepted. Tomorrow I have a meeting at The SPACE with the curator to discuss scale.

This is exciting, this seems like an oportunity with a capital O. I had previously had artworks in Coastal Currents Festival with a local art collective which helped me focus my practice again, and I do have a further two shows in cafes/bars this year. They didn’t require proposals though and I feel like I’ve made a turning point in some fashion.

So this blog will (hopefully) be a record of my first installation as an emerging artist and not as a student.
