The Sporting League: Game 10
Tranquilayers maintained their two point lead at the top with a one goal to nil away win over Colne…Universo Collunteen cosily nestled themselves into the number two position with a four goals to nil away victory over a dazed and confused Chamber Athlete…Delta ended their abysmal run – defeating thirteenth placed Bombaya by a goal to nil. Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I can’t believe that Delta won their titles from 2001-03. I’m not sure the managers have gotten the board room support over recent seasons. I mean lets face it, they got a lucky penalty against Bombaya today – turgid stuff.’
Sporting League: Game 9
Tranquilayers dropped their first points of the season in an enthralling three – three draw against old rivals Bayerns. Sporting radio Pundit X: ‘ ‘That was like bathing in the good old days of the 80’s when the two clubs dominated early proceedings in The Sporting League. I’m lookin’ at the youth policies the two ol’ big guns have at the mo’ and have gotta say that we could be havin’ ourselves a bit of an 80’s revival. That game was something else – you had the strength and resilience of Bayerns versus the pin point passing from Tranquilayers, Classic stuff.’
Novia got their tactics right in the chess-like match against Athletico with a one goal to nil home victory. Novia boss:’We were too clever for them at the end of the day. I don’t think the Athleticans will get anywhere close this season if I’m being honest – their board have sold off most of the reserves. It’s a bit of a sad state for their supporters. I reckon we’ll be transforming into a bigger club over the next few seasons. I’m off to the beach now to catch meeself a few rays and hit the surf.’
Sporting League: Game 8
Tranquilayers maintained their four point gap with a three goals to one away win over Delta…Universo dispelled the myth of ‘Fortress Pacifica’ after securing a five goals to one away victory…Pointeso celebrated a new big bucks investment in their club with a four goals to two away win over Drakens. Pointeso boss: ‘The sponsorship deal is fantastic news for our development plan. Now we need to push on and get the results. I’m looking at adding a few new players before the transfer wiindow closes so watch this space y’all.’ Bayerns well and truly ended their stuttering start to the season with a confident win over Chamber Athlete…Sporting Radio pundit Y: ‘I was pretty impressed with Lunderbach earlier. They’re on of those teams that I feel should be having more success than they’ve been having for the past ten years or so. I don’t know why they ditched their youth policy from the 1997 – 98 season. That was probably the best team never to have won the Sporting League.’
Sporting League: Game 7 Scores
Tranquilayers increased their lead at the top of the table to four points. Trq boss: ‘Drakens caused us a few problems early on in the game and missed a couple of sitters. I was pleased the way our younger players stepped up and bagged a couple of goals. It’s good to see our players with smiles on their faces, it’s the positive attitude that’s giving us the extra point at the moment.’
Universo leap-frogged the Athleticans in the Erozna sponsored exhibition match of the month. Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘Aye, yeah, I enjoyed that one. Those Erozna exhibition events are always difficult to get tickets for, but I was up there in the press box with me champers and caviar. It’s good for the networking opportunities as well…had a good chat with the chief exec of The Sporting League.’
Pundit Y: ‘Do you ever get to see any of the matches?’
Pundit X: ‘Don’t be cheeky. Nah, I didn’t think it was a classic by any means, but I’m takin’ another look at Universo…it could be their year, I’m poppin’ to the bookies on Mezmola street after the show – fancy comin’ down?’
Pundit Y: ‘Look, last time I went to the bookies with you I ended up skint for a month!’
Bayerns used the strength of their newly toughened midfield to overpower a meek Yop Lane set up by two goals to nil.
The Metronova boss was at it again complaining about the music down at Pointeso after their surprise two – one away win. ‘The music…it kills me man! Why do Pointeso seem to be above the law eh? I wouldn’t mind if it was more of my kind of music but come on all those computer bleeps were doin’ me garden shed in! Mind you, a two – one win was well earned for us in spite of the din.’
Sporting League: Game 6
Tranquilayers made it six wins on in a row as they edged past an improved Metronova by two goals to one…Universo Collunteen missed a last gasp penalty against Green Tree to draw nil -nil…Threadbare Pacifica dropped to sixth position after surrendering a two goal advantage against Bayerns, eventually losing by three goals to two…Yop Lane heaped the pressure on the new Delta boss winning by SEVEN goals to nil. Sporting Radio phone in, Delta supporter: ‘The gaffer need to get down the road! Look, this is a team with history – the only side to have ever won it three times in a row and it’s all going down the pan. What excuse will the board come up with next? The proof is that we’ve just been hammered by those gloating Yoppites and we’re bottom of the league. Get the gaffer out…now!’
