The Sporting League: Game 25
Universo Collunteen and Athletico cancelled each other out in a pulsating match that finished one goal a peice.
Pundit S: ‘You’ve slipped seven points behind the leaders Pointeso – don’t you think you’re now looking at the runner-up spot?’
Universo Boss: ‘You always come out with ’em don’t ya eh? Look, if you want the old soundbites of it ain’t over till the last game or take each game at a time you’ve come to the wrong guy alright? I will say that we put on a helluva show against a resurgent Athletico. It was always going to be difficult against a side with their history and their goal record this season.’
Pointeso took advantage of the Universo slip up as they made easy work at the home of Yop Lane.
Pundit X: ‘It’s not quite over, but with only one defeat so far this season its now looking pretty ominous for the chasing pack. Last season, I dunno, the Pointesans looked more bothered by their nights out> I mean, aye, they’re young…probably the youngest team on average throughout the league but their experience of the last campaign has certainly added something to their resilience. Those Yoppites are big guys but the Pointesans made it look like taking candy from a babby.’
Novia cemented their claim for a top three finish with an injury time winner over Green Tree.’
Pundit L: ‘That really got Green Tree where it hurts. I think they played the wrong tactics at a balmy Novia stadium.’
Sporting League: Game 24
Pointeso took an immense step to Sporting League glory with a precious victory over their chasing pack rivals Novia.
Novia boss: ‘I can only see one team winning the league now. We gave it our best shot, but Pointeso were the best team out there…it pains me to admit it. We’ll keep working on our set pieces that really let us down today.’
Universo Collunteen recorded an unprecedented win away to Bayerns. The four goals to nil defeat was that largest home loss in their Sporting League history.
Universo boss: ‘We did everything right today. That was a strong Bayerns line up but we deadened the game for them after five minutes. Really proud of our guys.’
Athletico hammered three first half goals past Sporting Athlete.
Pundit X:’Well that may well have been a bit of a temporary filling for the Athletican boss. I’m sure that he’s been questioning himself whether he wants to carry on as the Athletico manager.’
Sporting League: Game 23
Big guns Pointeso were held to a draw against relegation threatened Haaveno.
Pundit L: ‘So what about that then – do you think you’ve turned a corner?’
Haaveno boss: ‘We’re taking it one game at a time but I saw some good performances out there today. Again, it was sloppy defending that cost us the three points. I think the supporters were our twelfth player though…’
Novia slipped up at home to Yop Lane by two goals to nil – failing to take advantage of the Pointeso performance.
Novia boss: ‘It’s always the same when you’re up against the Yoppites – remember, they were the Colbreck champions for years on end. You can never take that fixture lightly. Lets just say that I’ve had words…’
Universo Collunteen moved within five points of the leaders – winning by three goals to nil against Green Tree.
The Hellerton Institute of fiscal informatics have issued a report stating that The Sporting City economy is ‘temporarily efficient.’
The Sporting League: Game 22
The match of the day witnessed leaders Pointeso lay down their statement of intent with a two goals to nil win over third placed Universo Collunteen.
Pundit X: ‘I thought that one was going to be tough for you out there. You seemed to breeze it in the end – you killed the game in the first half and it was all cruise control in the second.’
Pointeso Boss: ‘The league is our priority. I’ve been hearing stuff about us being entered for the Triangular Pitch Championships despite the fact that we’re not the champions. We’ll leave that one for Tranquilayers. We stuck with the plan today, and to be fair, I felt that Universo looked a bit jaded and we were able to take advantage.’
Novia kept up the pressure with a two goals to one win over Olby.
Pundit Y: ‘Novia kept up the pressure, they’ve got a really good attitude and I was expecting more goals out there. The body language is always positive…always looking to push forward. How many times have we seen them come back after conceding an early goal. They were really hungry for the ball were the Novians.’
