Along A Path Towards Self-Destruction, Masa Weeb, 2016.
Materialisation is a recent project employing a methodology of recycling found and selectively chosen organic and inorganic materials as a means of highlighting the often-negative environmental impacts of human ingenuity and intervention, raising concerns for the immediate future of the planets species and ecosystems. Each sculpture’s title, a price tag, also draws attention to societal perceptions of value and the commodification of material objects.
It is perhaps, the influence of dominant ideologies, upon the means of material production that has impacted the natural world significantly. The materialisation of my ambiguous sculptures can be interpreted as a symbolic representation of the paradox created by our species natural inclination to intervene in an unnatural manner within the environment. Cynically, it is implied through significations that our species seemingly innate desire to create will ultimately always lead us along a path towards self-destruction.
