Gideon Kiefer
I have discovered this artist in a book I was reading. This piece of work that I have attached has reminded me of that I am trying to achieve with my ‘scientist’ series, only this is painted while mine are printed. It has the same sort of feel that I am aiming to achieve.
My head candles, in the dark space with the new led candles in them. Here is an example of what it will look like. It is a shame I had to use the LED candles as the ‘flame’ sticks out a bit and takes a bit away from the heads. However once turned on it is not as badly noticeable.
It will still work fine but i will need to experiment with the amount that I need, will I have these spaced out far apart from each other, or one long line of them which will look better, or so I think in my imagination, but the downside is that it may light the room up too much, being negative in the long run.
My girlfriend has been looking at Avant Garde films as part of her course. This is something that I have also been looking into as I become interested in trying to figure out what is going on in them. I like not knowing a narrative behind the film, just watching it for the sake of it, and without a narrative you do not form the same attachment that you would do to another type of film.
These films can be counted as ‘Dadaist’ films as it aims to shock the audience and question the meaning behind what is art. These two clips I have attached I have chosen both have stuck in my head after seeing them. The first one which is known as ‘The Doctor and the Pencil’ which I saw as part of a television series called ‘the mighty boosh’. This film clip had stayed in my head as I had no idea what was happening however still found it entertaining.
The second clip is called Un Chien Andalou (1928) by Luis bunuel. I like this due to the time that it was filmed, way back in 1928. I liked how you start watching it, but then the shock factor comes in when you see the clip involving the eye at 1:34 – 1:42.
enjoy :)
Un Chien andalou (1928)
Justin Bartlett.
I have seen this artist in a book I own. He has created illustrations which are fairly detailed. I have been looking at him due to the content and the link with religion. A lot of his work involved using symbols which can be related to satanism, and links to the devil, the Antichrist.
My new space
When I say my new space, I mean the same space, However I now have all three walls instead of just one. Now that the level 5’s that were there have gone I have been able to start painting the space. I have put images with this post of my new space for the next two weeks.
As you can see I have added on a white roof. it has been added in three sections as I could not buy a sheet big enough. There are a fewdips in the sheets, but this should not be noticeable in the end when the room is hopefully blackened. After putting this up, I had the problem of there being small gaps that would appear. I had solved this problem with a simple staple gun and a lot of staples. Everything with the roof is now fine, apart from it being white, I’m not sure if this will be a problem or not, I shall soon find out later this week.
Over the week and the weekend, I have also painted all three walls black, this should hopefully mean that the light cannot be reflected by what was the white walls. Hopefully this will also make it a little bit more darker, getting a more desired dark room that I want. I still need to get a small brush and paint the top part of the wall, with the small gap between at the top which is close to the white sheet, this should be done on Monday.
around the bottom of the walls, i have added soil which hides the small white strip and also adds a border to the edges. hopefully people wont want to get dirty and so wont step on the soil. this will also add a small barrier around my angels when i put them down, meaning that they can be seen but i dont want them to be touched as they are fragile and will proberbly brake.
the final thing i have done is to add bed sheet to see what this would look like. i have discovered that i will need another sheet, also i will need to double them up as with a single side they let in too much light. i will be sewing these together to make the opening curtain/door.
