Anthony McCall
Briefly looked and Anthony McCall’s Long Film Four Projectors for this image that I came across where the projectors are creating streams of light. Usng light in my cage area (be it utilising natural light or using artificial lights could be interesting and create some interesting areas within the cage and change the suspense of the caged environment too.

Bruce Nauman – “Double Steel Cage”
Nauman’s Double Steel Cage was suggested for me to look at right at this project … and is included in two of my four sketchbooks as this piece s quite influencial in terms of structure and the audience participation.
Nauman creates his double cage by placing one slightly smaller cage inside a larger one and has allowed just enough space between the cages for his audience participants to squeeze between. He has obstructed the viewers access around the cage by leaving enough space for the viewer to side step all the way around the piece (see image). By doing this, the viewer is over come by fears and worries such as entrapment within the cage.
This idea of entrapment and caged in is central to my work, I want to create a space that looks large on the outside but is tight inside. To achieve these feelings I will cover the outside of my cage with craft paper (reflecting back to my paper cage – see earlier in blog – and also I want to create a cage but one that is a metaphore for a cage). I am also planning to make the overall cage areas (there are 3 areas to the Cage) quite tight and cramp and will hopefully achieve this by making a 6ft high by 4ft wide cage. This will hopefully feel snug for one viewer to enter but also extremely tight and cramped if more enter at one time.

So todays plans were to basically do nothing and re-charge my batteries for the last 4 week push to the degree show … well that didn’t happen.
Anyway instead of doing nothing I got up and started cracking on with some new ideas starting with a painting at about 9am and decided to leave it alone at 4pm this afternoon. Then started my new blog (because although I was hesitant about blogging at the start of this uni year – I’m finally actually enjoying it … slightly – may have something to do with the fact I have things to say and show now) anyway, I’ve also been looking at websites for my next adventure once Uni finishes… and have just started to put together my new business cards for the Degree show ! Rather busy day for me … seeing as I haven’t left my desk chair all day.
A few images of recent works and ideas that I’m currently working on ..
With these ideas I want to further develop a sign part of my project for my caged enclosure. I also want to experiment with my globe and see hwat I can do with it or if I can incorporate it within my main piece.
