Sculpture

Worked on my sculpture yesterday and not it is complete except for the ears. The ears are the most important and fiddly part and so naturally i have left it until last.

Test Projections of Videos

So i have tested out two different projectors in my space and it is not without its difficulties. I have been given my studio space for the degree show as it is ‘home’ at uni. I hope it should work well for the degree show, i have just had to look at it again as a blank canvas to see it as a show space and not a work space.

I tested a short throw projector yesterday along with a standard projector. The short throw was ok but because of the light in my space it did not work to my satisfaction. I then tried the standard projector which was clearer and much better in the main space. The only problem is the light. I cant have a brightly lite space as the video will show and alternatively i cant have a too dark as space as it wont show the colours within my others works. ??????????????????????????

Sculpture Almost Finished

After taking my time to think upon my sculpture and decide on the nest way to tackle it. I have plastered it in images of beagles in testing labratories, beagles injured/dead, beagles being rescued and protests by animal rights groups. My sculpture is an object i am will use to put forward bluntly and show (very much in your face) how bad things are for these animals. The images are very strong and depict scenes that would upset even the toughest of individuals, they are very hard to look at. I want it to shock my audience and make them go away realising how important animals are to our existence and how we should be stopping this cruelity. Put yourself in their shoes (metaphorically speaking) and see how bad you want to be loved and not abused for the sake of make up.

Bryan Holland

Artist Bryan Holland creates intriguing paintings and collage works by juxtaposing styles from various eras. Many of his works have a retro quality that reminds one of the bygone days of billboard painting as an art form. Glossy images of apples, lipstick and other products that seem practically interchangeable hearken back to the days of Mad Men-era advertising. In other works, Holland depicts wild animals in staged-looking poses, reminiscent of the kind of tableaux one might find at a natural history museum. These depictions of ossified or at least domesticated-looking animals are set against faded text and backgrounds that could be inspired by vintage wallpaper designs, calling to mind old-timey circus posters. Meanwhile, the costumes and poses of Holland’s various human subjects often refer back to 15th-century Flemish portraiture. Taken as a whole or viewed individually, Holland’s work creates a dense tapestry of cultural associations that reveal a deep interest in commercial art of both the past and present.

I like how his works depict animals in environments and poses that are not natural. This i felt a connection with because of how my research and work has looked and experimented with animals not being in a natural or even normal environment. It is and has been manipulated by people.
