Ok, its been a while I know! I should be more regimented with updates.
Last time I posted that I would be casting my sister, well it went ok, but only ok! The plaster was going off too soon for the scrim, and I ran out of the coarse scrim so it made it even more difficult!
But having said that, since creating it I have been hard working on the outside, making good of what I have. It is best to treat every experience as a learning curve. Only making my technique and skills better tuned.
So back to the Professional Practice module and my contact with the dance school, seems as though I can cross my fingers! as they have said yes to a meeting.
Next stage for me is to prepare for it, sketches, plans, power point, samples, etc, etc.
I will keep adding updates, hopefully a bit more regular than the last!
Right, next stage has been set in motion! A letter has been sent to DanceEast in Ipswich for them to at least look at! I know that it may come to nothing, but who knows unless it is sent?
A number of materials have been ordered to produce samples for them, and for me to play with!
Next step for me is to create some casts of my hands!! Then to make some positives from them.
Then on Friday I will be attempting my first cast of someone else! My sister, who luckily is a dancer herself. I can then at least see how the body works and gain some valuable experience needed to cast someone with confidence.
Keep you posted on how that all goes, you never know maybe some photos!!
Ok, have had to do some serious thinking. What avenue and direction should I take my module in? In the beginning I wanted to work with a dance studio in Ipswich and create a piece or a range of pieces. I made arrangements to meet with the uni’s representative that already has connections with the studio to propose my initial ideas to her. It went well, but with a couple of set backs – 1 They have no money! 2 They are very particular and would probably not be interested in the idea of having students work on display for the public. So another option is to proposition the university, they have shown a good amount of interest in keeping my sculpture made for our first semester’s assessments. Surely we are an art school but have no art outside the building that represents this.
My next meeting was with my head of department, feedback was pretty positive. He had the same views as me that we are an art school but promote this through – nothing!! Initial plans were to put something on the roof, but after looking at my plans, due to the powers above that control the building this will be near impossible. I have taken photos of the area outside the building and go back to the drawing board.
My progress will be updated as soon as I have something more concrete, build up a portfolio of ideas and go to the dean. Fingers crossed.
I will be updating this blog for my Professional Practice module for uni. So if yo are interested in casting or have this module coming up, keep checking! It would be great if I could help anybody about to go through this process.
