Kerry Phippen – Contemporary Scottish Fine Artist
Kerry Phippen (b.1968 Perth Scotland) achieved First Class honours in Drawing for Fine Art at Swindon College of Art & Design (2001-04) followed by MFA with distinction at Bath Spa University College (2004-05). Her drawings and paintings are developed from a prolific output of sketches and Phippen’s playful dark narratives place an emphasis on beauty, humour and emotion.
Exhibiting extensively since graduation, Kerry’s work has been seen at the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition (2008 and 2009); The Jerwood Drawing Prize (2006 and 2007); RWA Autumn Exhibition (2006,2007,2008,2009,2011); The Derbyshire Prize (2008); Royal Scottish Academy(2008) – winner of the Grampian Hospitals Arts Prize; The Celeste Painting Prize (2009); as well as several showings at London and New York Art fairs. Kerry’s ink drawing ‘Ghoul School’ is held as part of the collection of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum.
Kerry has been recently awarded ‘Excellence in watercolour’ for ‘Reindeer’s Tears’ at this year’s RWA autumn exhibition, from a series of work inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen’.
