First interview done today for the MAFA course with the course leader. As he knows my work, we talked more about what to expect on Monday’s interview. I’m meeting again one of my teachers to do another mock up interview tomorrow. I have also talked to a friend which is currently doing her MA at Chelsea, her advice has been truly helpful too. Charlie will be in the panel on Monday with two more teaching stuff. I will practise the interview during the weekend and get some proposals together so they can see what kind of job I would like to develop during the course. I’m not sure what kind of proposals to do, this is quite new to me and with the degree piece on the way I can’t think of other projects that I would like to do next, I might do but I’m worried that they might not be good enough for them. We are five people shortlisted, with me being the only current student at uni shortlisted. I feel like a have a good chance and I’m building my confidence to go for this. If I win this studentship, they will pay the course fees and they will give me a stipend of £9.600. Mind blowing! Too good to be true??? To win this will be amazing and I will throw a big party to celebrate, well deserved it, it has been a very busy year!
Well, going back now to my studio, it has been a good week. My helpers from 1st and 2 year are amazing and they are very committed to help me with the degree show work.
I did a rough drawing last night that how I would like the installation to be and is helping us to keep focus on what we are doing. We have finished the monster’s tail today and I will try to stuff it in the morning with green tissue paper. This piece is the most fun work that I have ever done and I want to think it is going to look amazing. Colourful, fun but also a bit dark, just how I like it. I’m doing a perplex box also, inside there will be a kind of a cocodrile/monster thing inside made out of cardboard and modroc, the tail will come out of the box and it will curl around the asymmetrical shapes. I will be building a low plinth and all the objects hopefully they will pile on top of each other. The sewing continues/more sewing/sewing more.
Good progress as well regarding the video. My good friend Andrezj who graduated from moving image at Brighton too it is going to help me with the shooting and the editing of the video. I have also two female performing students interested to help out on this, possibly a male student too. I’m planning to do the filming between the 29th and the 30th April, and hopefully but the end of the week it can be all edited and done. I will be building at home a Punch and Judy kind of puppet stage with mdf where the tv screen will be rest and be seen.
I have a dilemma about the drawings, to frame or not to frame? I have found a trade framing factory in West Sussex that they could do cheaper but it will still a good couple of 100 pounds, maybe less but not much, I think. Some people are telling me that they do not need framing and that framing and some others think they will look better framed. I don’t fancy spending all that money which I haven’t got at the moment and if I frame I will have to have a cut off day to send the drawings away which means that I happen to make more drawings which I like I won’t be able to frame on time or pay more to be framed in Brighton.
Decisions, decisions…
Tomorrow more…
