My artistic practice explores a range of themes closely related to identity: personal, social and national.
In a recent body of work I have been exploring the complexities and defining qualities of people living in Britain. You may call it a bewildering attempt to find out what being British is all about.
All my work seems to have a continual strand of self-performance, sometimes more explicitly then others. From the obvious like my obsessive wearing of the national colours – red white and blue to the processes evolved with pimpin’ my ride (Rover 100), painting the 2000 2p coins (God? save the Queen?, 2009/10) to interviewing the general public in my installation works.
I feel that my fresh young approach to my art, particularly using new medias enables me to communicate with today’s new tech-savvy generations, extending to, from and beyond the ‘white cube space’ into peoples lives – via live, online and participatory based media.
Alongside my fine art practice/studies I have also been involved with a number of community arts projects ranging from assisting break-dancing sessions to running workshops on the creative industries.
