Hungate Medieval Art in association with The School of World Art and Museology at the University of East Anglia is seeking Stewarding and Events Volunteers for Journeys Through The Light, an exciting contemporary art exhibition at the medieval church of St Peter Hungate in Norwich. The exhibition will run from the 15th of March to the 16th of July 2012.
During the opening week we are seeking volunteers for the Private View on Thursday the 15th: 6-8p.m, Friday 16th: 16.30 to 19.30, Saturday the 17th: 10 to 16.00 and Sunday the 18th: 10 to 16.00.
For the rest of the exhibition we are intending to open every Saturday and Sunday from 10-16.00, and we would love to hear from people who would be willing to lend a hand; whether this is in terms of a regular commitment or a one-off session. We will be dividing the sessions into morning shifts from 10a.m to 13.00 and afternoon shifts from 13.00 to 16.00.
Stewarding will include working with a checklist of technical requirements to ensure that light boxes and audio-visual equipment are turned on and off at the start and end of each day, as well as a general check list for Hungate itself.
Events will include a unique Family Drop-In Time Lapse Photography Workshop, run by Sophie Wood and Lynne Merryland of Light-Wait (Date to be confirmed). For this workshop we are specifically seeking individuals with computer and or photography skills. We are also hoping to have workshops in Video Painting, Textiles and at least one Family Craft session.
If possible we would like you to attend a Drop-in Volunteer Induction Session on Saturday the 10th of March between 12 and 14.00. Please would you print out the Volunteer Record Form and bring it with you to the induction.
If you are interested in volunteering, or have further questions, please contact Bridget Eaton on [email protected].

Hungate Medieval Art is proud to present the first Hungate Contemporary exhibition: Journeys Through the Light. This multi-media exhibition, based in the deconsecrated church of St Peter Hungate in the heart of Norwich, focuses on contemporary artists’ responses to the experience and qualities of light as it travels through medieval stained glass. The concept of light is explored through film, painting, photography, sculpture, print and installation. Journeys Through the Light offers an unusually varied experience.
Inspired by the Medieval tradition of stained glass, which was the subject of Hungate Medieval Art’s first major exhibition, this exhibition explores links between Norwich’s impressive heritage and its thriving art community. This is no white box exhibition, but a lively dialogue in which artists from near and far engage with the city’s magnificent historical setting.
