LC:
After 3 months of planning, selecting artists and setting up the project, it feels great to get the on with the creative aspects of our collaborative project.
A strong start to the project on Friday evening with our first meeting. Everyone has responded to prompt word ‘straight’ with intergrity and commitment. We had a very interesting critique session to discuss the work, and it was also an opportunity for everyone to break the ice and get to know each other a little better.
For the next phase of the project, artists have been grouped into pairs or threes. Each group has been allocated 2 or 3 pieces of work from the first task, ‘Straight’ to use as a trigger to generate new work. Artists are encouraged to view the works given to them in conjunction with each other and to work together in their collaborative groups to find new meanings or interpretations/ideas from which to proceed.
The act of handing over the work is a generous one – the work may be responded to in which case it remains intact, but it may also be subject to alteration or deconstruction.
The two way contract of trust and respect is an important factor if we are all to collaborate successfully.
The collaborative groupings are as follows:
Ros Barker & Ruth Payne using work created by Karen Gardner & Sonia Griffin; Val Bolsover & Lindsay Connors using work created by Niki Campbell & Ros Barker; Alison Berry & Sonia Griffin using work created by Val Boslover & Ruth Payne; Jo Brown, Niki Campbell & Katie Hayward using work created by Alison Berry, Dawn Adams & Lindsay Connors; Dawn Adams & Karen Gardner using work created by Jo Brown & Katie Hayward.
Work will be ready for our next meeting on 21 Feb.
We have opened up the blog now so that all collaborators are able to contribute.
