Eric Standley is an American lasercutting artist that creates incredibly complex papercuts.

His work is very similar to mine and I use him as an inspiration. His inspiration is derived  from the geometry that is found in Gothic and Islamic Architecture. These are very similar inspirations to my own.

I find his work fascinating because of  the detail that is involved in it.  My work differs in the sense  that I do not use a laser cutter but cut from hand. Through this I have less precision, tears and inaccuracies in symmetrical geometry but feel this also gives my work more of an authenticity and is more true to my concept.

I enjoy that my paper cuts are not perfect and I like their uniqueness that it gives them, each piece will always be different which would be an attribute that I would lose if I began to laser cut my designs.

Since my concept is bringing the past and present together I feel that it is best to adopt past methods of working by hand than with computer aided design.
