Two consecutive exhibitions of work by 26 Somerset artists. As well as their unique visual qualities, Somerset landscapes have rich layers of history and legends which inspire creative minds. The evocative place names in the Quantock Hills are clues to hidden stories that fire the imagination. With this in mind, a party of Somerset artists took ‘A Short Walk In The Quantocks' from Dead Womans Ditch up to Dowsborough Hill Fort. From the dark woodland around the prehistoric ditch with the tale of murder that gives it its name, through trees sculpted by winds, the walkers entered the strange woodland of sessile oaks on the Great Bear and walked up to the Bronze Age hill fort of Dowsborough with its tales of Danish warriors' ghosts. Five Lords, Knackers Hole and Shervage Wood with its own tale of a worm (dragon) could be seen. This short walk provided 26 Somerset Artists with the source of inspiration for artworks in a variety of media including painting, prints, textiles, sculpture and new media. Artists: Annabel Anderson (Gaitskell), Clare Duvergier, Helen Falconar, Caroline McMillan Davey, Jane Mowat, Lyn Mowat, Peter Messa, Briar Norton, Beccy Swaine, Sue Webber, Teresa Whiting.
