Caxton Contemporary is delighted to be showing new works by Swedish artist Lisa Pettersson as part of the Whitstable Biennale 2010 Satellite Programme, opening on Saturday 19 June the show continues to 18 July. These mixed media works evoke feelings of holiday nostalgia. They are a series of postcards from Whitstable: the recipient’s response to an unknown place. Petterssons’ work plays with the concept of the displaced object or souvenir, and the tourist who consumes it. By removing an image from its original context and re-presenting it in exaggerated Pop Art-style form, Pettersson invites us to look again and consider the power of nostalgia.
