Climate allows humans to live culturally with their weather …[1]

The words we use to describe the weather, bleak, gloomy, cold, warm are words we also use to describe feelings, mood, human qualities. We talk of facing the elements, namely the atmospheric forces of wind and rain – the air and water of the four elements in ancient Greek philosophy (air, water, fire, earth) according to which the world was classified, a development of the ideas of Thales who held that everything was made up of water.
The works in the exhibition are linked by the element of water – more specifically the sea.
The exhibition is part of SALT: Sea &The Environment Festival 21 – 24 October
SALT is a new festival about the sea and the environment co-curated by Folkestone Quarterhouse, Folkestone Fringe and Karen Shepherdson from Canterbury Christ Church University. https://www.quarterhouse.co.uk/festivals/salt-sea-andthe-environment-festival
