‘Absence’ is an installation which will offer the visitor a haunting experience within the setting of St Mary-at-the-Quay church in Ipswich. Previously shown in Ireland, the work provoked a sense of reverence – people fell silent as they made a ‘pilgrimage’ around the central piece. As a printmaker, who extends her work into other media (such as wax, fabrics, steel), Marilyn Kyle works with themes which are, at the same time, both profound and commonplace: part of all human experience. Though delicate and, at first glance, pretty, Kyle’s work has been variously described as “chilling and very powerful” and “dark, but massively intriguing”. A show not to be missed.
