Agata Engelman
Artist-in-Residence at Digital Artist Residency
== 1st May – 31st May 2017==
http://www.digitalartistresidency.org
Agata Engelman is an artist and an academic working in the fields of philosophy and cultural studies. In her work, she engages the difficult relationships between the human and the nonhuman, with a special focus on radical politics, hybrid ontologies, and nature conservation after the end of Nature.
The digital residencies provide an online space for artists to develop works, ideas and practices. Digital Artist Residency is an online platform which provides space for digital artists to create and display new artwork. The initiative aims to provide support for artwork created using digital processes, exploring the boundaries of art and technology.
During the residency, Engelman will work on a two-part piece, ‘Eye for an eye’, which looks at reactions to the shoot-on-sight policy at the Kaziranga National Park in India, home to endangered one-horned rhinos. Park rangers are not prosecuted if they use lethal force against poachers, which started a heated discussion on the web. A word cloud will be made from readers’ comments below articles on the subject and DAR website visitors will be able to add their own opinions, changing the cloud. Over the time of the residency, Engelman will build scales weighing the deaths of rhinos and people, informed by the word cloud.
