Alex Frost: BBQ 23 February – 6 April, 2008Preview and Reception for the Artist: Saturday 23 February 2008, 2pmArtSway is proud to present an exhibition of new work by the Glasgow-based artist, Alex Frost. The exhibition will include a range of new mosaic sculptures and drawings that relate to the residency Frost undertook in 2007. These works play upon the concept of the rural retreat in contrast to the artist's urban, or specifically suburban, standpoint. The works for ArtSway contain subtle suggestions to wholesome and improving lifestyles. These include floral motifs adorning a box of slimmer's tea or a small crop of vegetables decorating a carton of vegetable juice. These motifs all share an uncomfortable relationship with their rural setting as well as collectively referring directly to it. These mosaics depict the commercial packaging of products such as Ryvita, Earl Grey tea and After Eight mints. The items were chosen for their references to sophisticated, social and grown-up lifestyles – all suggestions that contradict the playful aesthetic inherent in the work. Alex Frost's exhibition at ArtSway is presented in partnership with Milton Keynes Gallery.
