The Royal British Society of Sculptors is delighted to host an exhibition of works created by the winner of the 2014 Brian Mercer Stone Residency.
This exhibition celebrates her work and will open with a private view on Wednesday 21 October (6.30 – 8.30pm) and also includes a talk by the artist on 4 November from 6.30pm. Exhibition runs until 18 December 2015.
Alice Cunningham was selected from the RBS membership to spend 3 months developing her skills with the support of world renowned artisans in Pietrasanta, Italy and chose to retain the stone’s integral qualities, developing her investigations into the emotive impact of line, and experimenting with how we navigate and interpret landscapes and objects.
Cunningham’s work is equally conceptual and materials led and, in this new body of work, she aimed to celebrate both the legacy of conceptual art and more traditional, formal sculpture. The combination of her sensitivity to and enjoyment of materials, and yet also strong conceptual weight to her artwork leads the viewer to a reminder of the materiality of the world around us, how we impact, respond to, and the affect this has.
