This is my first exhibition since Graduating in 2007 at University College Falmouth. Fortunately, I have been able to carry on with my art work with the aid of a studio built at the bottom of the garden last summer. Whereas the imagery of my recent work is different, the underlying thoughts and processes are very much the same. I’m constantly fascinated with the “flaws” that this world has to offer us, and the continual marks that man and nature are leaving behind. Previous studies of such marks have included rust and rubbish. These two subjects have led me to interpret what is generally seen as useless or unworthy into an image that gives the subject a second chance of being looked at. My resent flawed exploration depicts the imperfections that light can have on a photograph, and the glare that it can release, of which are more formally known as light or lens flares. I have aimed to bring an aggressive yet absorbing feeling to both my oil paintings and pen and ink drawings, in reflection to the harshness and mesmerising effects that light flares emit.
