An Occasional Cobra; The Trebus Project aims to capture the memories and insights of people with dementia before their words are lost to history. Between 2008 and 2012 David Clegg spent over 100 hours with three people who occupied the same room (room 21) in a care home one after the other. Each person had been diagnosed with some form of dementia. ‘An Occasional Cobra’ looks at how the architecture of the care home – filtered through a lens of dementia – impacted on their narratives and, in turn, their narratives came to effect their perceptions of the physical space and the objects around them. Over the next six months (beginning 15th July 2012) a range of experts in neurology, linguistics, the arts and social history will add footnotes and commentary to the stories showing how interpreting the words of people with dementia can be a creative act in its own right. To follow the project go to www.trebusprojects.org or Facebook at ‘The Trebus Project Ltd’.
