Andy Abbott is an artist, writer and musician based in Bradford. He holds a practice-led PhD from University of Leeds with a thesis on socially engaged art and self-organised culture. As Producer Music and Visual Arts for University of Bradford he is currently developing a Centre for Socially Applied Arts.
The digital residencies provide an online space for artists to develop works, ideas and practices. Digital Artist Residency is an online platform which provides space for digital artists to create and display new artwork. The initiative aims to provide support for artwork created using digital processes, exploring the boundaries of art and technology.
The result of the residency will be on display at Oxford Town Hall as part of the Urban Art exhibition between 5th – 30th April 2018.
For his time as ‘Urban Oxford Digital Artist in Residence’, Abbott will work on ‘If The Walls Could Speak’. Taking on the role of Urban Oxford Explorer, Abbott aims to create a virtual trail of hidden, unusual and under-appreciated aspects of the city. Starting with the photographs, art, creative writing, and other media from community groups and local people featured in the exhibition, he will create a series of short 360/VR videos to be experienced online, in the gallery, and as a live trail.
