Anima/Animus is a new site-specific art installation at Winchester Cathedral as part of 10 days | Winchester | Creative Collisions. Artist collective WE (Kye Wilson and Helena Eflerova) have created a new site-specific installation Anima/Animus in response to a damaged 13th century statue, excavated from the Cathedral grounds, now on display inside the Cathedral. The artwork challenges public perception on both contemporary art and sacred site through the use of temporary non-interventional media. Exploring a direct dialogue between found object, performer/video image and viewer, WE invite audiences to engage with the ‘Other’ (through the gaze), via the use of movement and nonverbal language. Collaborating since 2008, Hampshire based artists WE (Wilson-Eflerová) combine performance and video mediums within an installation display context to create interdisciplinary artwork that explore themes of embodiment and the human condition. They have exhibited nationally and internationally. Anima/Animus is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Please note: Event is free but normal Cathedral entrance fee applies. Tickets are available from the Cathedral box office.
