Anna Roch Deus canvases develop dynamic, lively light atmospheres that aim to find a balance in the imbalance: they confirm and challenge the tension of movement, form and line on a two-dimensional canvas. These divide the canvas into levels, using a variety of textures such as marble sand, exploring the ways in which a canvas can create spaces of energy and silence within its complex structure of forms. Anna avoids preliminary sketches; the painting begins with an intuition about the surface and its interconnection in the space, creating tensions of a continuous visual movement. This, she hopes, will encourage a lively dialogue between the artist, the picture plane and the viewer. Anna uses opposing colours and makes her paint by mixing natural earth pigments with a water-based medium. She chooses materials and colours that reflect her frame of mind and the energy that she aims to transfer to her work. Anna Roch Deus is a Spanish artist based in London. She has a degree in Mural Painting and Fine Arts from Llotja, Barcelona (2001) and exhibited internationally.
