Truro School are to host an Anonymous Art Auction on Thursday 10th November, in order to raise funds for local charity ‘The Wave Project’.
The Wave Project runs an award winning surf programme, transforming the lives of young people suffering from anxiety and helping to building confidence.
With over 45 canvases contributed so far, including the work of local famous artists such as Louise McClary and Robert Jones, fundraising hopes are high.
Chair of Friends of Truro School, Jo Craze, explains why they chose The Wave Project, she says:
“I have friends whose children are currently benefitting hugely from the tremendous work that the charity does. With surfing being such a well-loved activity within the Cornish community, I hope that the charity will inspire people to either donate a canvas or come and bid at the auction.”
All proceeds from the event will go to the Wave project, and will help to provide one to one mentoring and surfing therapy for many young people experiencing difficulties.
Head of Fundraising at The Wave Project, Cath Collier, expressed the charity’s delight at being chosen for this event:
“We are totally stoked to be working with Truro School. The mindfulness which often goes hand in hand with the creation of art fits so well with the work of the Wave Project; supporting the mental health and wellbeing of vulnerable young people.”
Truro School’s last Anonymous Art Auction for The Sella Community Project in 2011 raised over £8000 in two hours, receiving bids from as far as Western Australia and this event hopes to follow in that success.
All artwork that will be on auction is to be displayed in an exhibition at the Heseltine Gallery at Truro School in the run up to the event, allowing people to see what they can bid for on the night.
Ranging from professional artists to pupils of Truro School, it is a chance to get your hands on some fantastic artwork at an affordable price, and provides an opportunity for aspiring artists to display their artwork alongside professionals.
The auction will be run by professional auctioneer, Andrew Body from Lodge and Thomas, who has volunteered his time for the fundraiser, helping to make the evening a true auction experience for those involved.
“For all the artists, pupils especially, it is an opportunity to experience the real buzz and excitement of a live auction,” says Jo Craze.
Viewing times run from 10am – 5pm on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th November, and from 4pm – 6pm on the 7th and 9th November. The live auction starts at 7pm on Thursday 10th November.
