Anonymous Wehrmacht is Graham Sait's debut exhibition consisting of painted portraits of German soldiers taken from WW2 photographic archives. The exhibition developed from the painting ‘Blizzard’ which is based on a photograph taken in the winter of 1942. The aim was to show the hardship of Germans soldiers in a harsh environment whilst conveying the elegance and energy of the Russian winter. Having completed Blizzard Graham decide to continue on with the theme of the Germans, showing ‘visual-bites’ from the Wehrmacht’s rank and file in the field. Graham concentrates mainly on portraiture and specifically the relationship between the person and their surroundings. Most of the work involves a fresh technique for each picture; as he is keen to explore varying methods that show the subject’s inherent energy.
