On Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June we throw open the doors and welcome the public to all four arches. The weekend lets visitors explore the spaces, meet the artists and see the work made over the past year, with opportunities to buy work directly from them and to take part in workshops, demonstrations and artist-led activities including Environmental Sculpture Making, Glow in the Dark Drawing, Portrait Painting, and Natural Plant Dyes as well as much more.
A selection of Southampton musicians will be playing during the Saturday before a giant Tug (of War) between artists and curators. The Saturday will be rounded off with a talk on artistic collaboration where we’re lucky enough to be joined by an array of exciting guests – Lizzie Jones (Arches Studios), Dianna Djokey (member of artist/curator collective Stair/Slide/Space and Communities Curator at John Hansard Gallery), Vickie Fear (Curator/Programme Manager at Aspex Gallery, Portsmouth and freelance curator) and Paul Smith (artist from Boredom Research).
Food will be served across the weekend, with Malaysian street food from Chubby Buns and vintage ice-cream and candy floss from Floss and Waffle. Visitors will also find a wide selection of craft beers from Southampton’s very own Butcher’s Hook, as well as gourmet coffee and tea from Chichester-based Really Awesome Coffee. On the Saturday, there will be a selection of Southampton’s finest local musicians playing live, as well as a pop-up shop that lets visitors take work from the Arches home with them.
