Artists’ Block is the culmination of a residency by Kim Noble (artist) and Markus Lloyd (poet) who worked in Portsea tower-block, Sarah Robinson House, for one week in May. Markus and Kim provided opportunities to participate in and learn about contemporary art practice for each of the 120 residential flats by setting up a studio and meeting place within the community flat. Inhabitants of the block will be invited to collaborate through a series of experimental projects. The exhibition will provide a forum for participants to continue to express their experiences of taking part in the project, through a series of interactive elements. Kim Noble is a performance and video artist, and one half of Perrier Award-winning, BAFTA-nominated, experimental art-comedy duo Noble and Silver. Kim’s work uses a provocative and humourous style to expose the human condition: notions of death, sexuality, gender and religion are picked at with dry comedic use of tragedy meshed with absurdity.Markus Lloyd is a poet and writer based in Portsmouth. His work has appeared in numerous magazines including Poetry London, Magma and features in the Seren anthology, Seren Selections.
