Collective Misunderstandings is an exploratory, reflective and evolving installation by Copenhagen-based collective, ATB. Invited by Art’s Birthday, Wales to explore notions of Utopia in advance of the 500 year anniversary of Thomas More’s book of the same name, ATB have designed an exhibition and programme of events and activities that will critically examine the history of utopian thinking. ATB invite us to consider such thinking as a method of open process that can be activated through forms of community-based geo-social mobility.

The gallery space will change over time to reflect the events, activities and dialogues that will take place in and around the gallery.

ATB is a multidisciplinary collective with members from Germany, Denmark, Norway, Lithuania, Chile and Wales. They share common interests in collectivity, urban space, performance, the politics of art and its emancipatory potential.

Collective Misunderstandings marks the eighth year of Art’s Birthday, Wales’ contributions to international, annual celebrations of Art’s Birthday on 17th January each year.

There is an associated symposium on Saturday 17th January at Mission Gallery, and   a   sister   event on Saturday 24th January in an offsite city centre venue where ATB, guest speakers and participants are invited to expand upon the subject of Utopia. Both events are free and bookable via eventbrite. Jointly hosted by Art’s Birthday Wales, ATB and Forever Academy.

Supported by Arts Council Wales, the Danish Arts Foundation and the Ministry Of Culture Of The Republic Of Lithuania.
