This autumn the Royal British Society of Sculptors will host an exhibition of works created by the 2011 winners of the Brian Mercer Stone and Bronze Residencies. Two talented sculptors were selected from the RBS membership to spend 3 months developing their skills with the support and guidance of world renowned artisans in Pietrasanta, Tuscany. Halima Cassell ARBS was awarded the Stone Residency at Fondazione Sem and Kate McLeod ARBS was awarded the Bronze Residency at Fonderia Mariani. This exhibition celebrates their discoveries and artist talks on 24 October 2012. “Three months of being part of such a hardworking, dedicated, inspiring, creative and joyful group of people was not only delightful, it was a very productive experience which has had a great impact on my working practice.” Halima Cassell ARBS “The sculptures exhibited at the RBS Gallery have succeeded in my original intention when starting this residency, which was to introduce permanent objects into a largely ephemeral practice that managed to harness the energy and spontaneity of a performative process.” Kate McLeod (Bursary).
