Seventeen teachers from across Oxfordshire are installing their own artworks at OVADA Gallery for an exhibition this summer. The exhibition is the culmination of a year-long professional development course for art teachers that helps them to develop or reconnect with their own practice. The Artist Teacher Scheme is a national programme coordinated by NSEAD, this exhibition showcases artwork from the course run by Oxford Brookes University in collaboration with Modern Art Oxford. Most of the teachers trained as artists originally, and now teach in primary and secondary education. Sarah Mossop, Head of Education at Modern Art Oxford said: “Many art teachers in our region are gifted artists, but because of the demands of their working lives, they may not always have the opportunity to keep up or develop their practice. This course gives them that opportunity." Capturing Water in a Sieve includes artworks in a variety of media exploring themes as diverse as family memories, the effect of light and weather on the colour of landscape, a contemporary interpretation of ancient philosophy and an installation celebrating quirky newspaper articles.
