Over the last two years I have been working on a series of tree photographs based on the forests of the North York Moors National Park. All the images have been shot using my Deardorff; a large format field camera on 8 x 10 inch film. The prints have been produced using a revised Victorian process called ‘Carbon Transfer Printing’. The process involves a formula of Indian ink and ground charcoal dust; the charcoal was supplied by a local charcoal maker working in the same forests that I was photographing. The unpredictability of carbon dust embedded in each print has created a unique tonal scale that can never be repeated. For those of you who are interested in the actual process, I will demonstrate the development of a carbon print during three half-hour sessions on Saturdays 8th & 22nd September and 6th October from 2pm
