Winning the Kenneth Armitage Fellowship in 2007, Tim Shaw has worked and lived in the late sculptor's studio residence in Kensington. This latest exhibition, 'Casting a dark Democracy' turns this quaint, unassuming building into a dark chamber of terror as Tim's work confronts issues of world conflict.A major installation standing five metres in height is based on the infamous media image of the Abu Ghraib prisioner. Constructed out of barbed wire, metal and black polythene, obscured by mist and balanced on a burnt wooden box the image is iconic and powerful. Other works in the exhibition include 'Man on Fire' and award winning 'Tank on Fire'. The exhibition is a culmination and exploration of the violation of human rights at the mercy of war.
