An exhibition of the London based artist Simone Wallace’s recent collages and prints at Greenwich Picture House. The exhibition, City made out of bits…not bricks, is concerned with the underlying theme in all Wallace’s works – ‘the urban’ revealing the research process behind her illustrative work the show displays six small intricate built up scenes both containing derelict and pristine buildings. This exhibition of abandoned decrepit scapes explores the urban grittier side of our modern society.Wallace’s work continues to develop from earlier pieces suggestively portraying landscape through mark making to her bold mixed hybrid illustrations created with industrial materials such as duct tape and photographic backing paper. Within ‘City made out of bits… not bricks’ the work charts the city in Simone’s childish collage style with a playful ‘stick and paste’ element creating a new fantastical landscape created from documenting real places such as Pickett’s Lock, Enfield. Simone Wallace, born 1987, studied her BA (Hons) Fine Art at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham (Graduated 2008) and lives and works in London. She is currently collaborating with other professionals and conducting workshops and talks within Secondary schools. Simone has exhibited Nationwide and in Italy as well as exhibiting in the Arena Contemporary Art Festival and has recently been acknowledged by an internationally renowned company, Fujifilm.
