Conflict at the Museum and Art Gallery, Derby Multi media exhibition con_flict: a state of disharmony will run from 30 April – 10 July 2011 at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery Con_flict: a state of disharmony is a startling body of work that includes sculpture, installation, photography and drawn line to present us with the residue of despair and hopelessness caused by conflict. Exploding out of the gallery and into the museum collection, this exhibition articulates an ongoing exploration of conflict. Derbyshire artist, Ivan Smith employs his signature action men as an emblem to illustrate the impact of global violence. By doing this he invites us to consider how mass media may exploit stories of destruction and aggression and what part this plays in contemporary world conflict. Throughout the exhibition there will be an opportunity to take part in an open dialogue about the themes presented.
