Unfolding Stories 4 – Textile Visions for 2020
An exhibition of Contemporary Textiles and Quilts
Chocolates and joyous digital colour, climate change and nature’s abstract artistry are among the subjects which have inspired members of Contemporary Quilters West in their latest outpouring of new work.
This will be the fourth in the group’s successful series of biennial exhibitions entitled Un-folding Stories. Number 4 opens at the Lansdown Gallery in the Cotswold market town of Stroud on May 12 and runs until May 24 2020.
Members each make their own journey and tell their own story but enjoy sharing the group dynamic. Dark themes and bright celebrations will be vying for attention along with a host of techniques and materials, from hand stitch to digital print.
Textile creations investigate the use of child labour in chocolate production, coming to terms with widowhood, the contortions we make in order to fit in and the glories of nature as well as the threats to it.
Some members explore more formal aspects of art including drawing, colour and abstrac-tion. New technologies are applied to design and print as well as to express personal and environmental narratives.
The show opens daily from 10am to 4pm with a chance to meet many of the artists during the exhibition.
