I will be at St James Church, Kidbrooke, Staffordshire ST7 4QT from 10am-2pm on 20th November, with a display of my books, including my latest “The Barlaston Murderer – Leslie Green”.

This is the story of the brutal murder of Mrs Mary Maud Wiltshaw, on 16th July 1952, at her home – going by the name of ‘Estoril’ on Station Road, Barlaston. She was the wife of Mr Frederick Cuthbert Wiltshaw, the Governing Director and son of the founder of the pottery firm of Wiltshaw & Robinson, of Copeland Street, Stoke-on-Trent.

Leslie Green, aka Terrance or Terry, former chauffeur of the Wiltshaws, was hanged for the murder on 23 December 1952, but right up to the moment of the noose going around his neck, he denied carrying out the murder. He said all along he was asleep on a park bench and nowhere near the Wiltshaw house. I was intrigued by this – did he do the murder or not? Yes, you can say that he was an ‘inadequate’ character – a loser, a thief, and that drink played a part in the attack – he may have panicked and ‘lost it’ under the influence of alcohol – possibly. I was also intrigued by the fact that he presented himself to the police station, of his own accord. Now, why would he do that, if he had done the murder?

The book is also available to purchase, as paperback or ebook, via Amazon.com
