This project is a response to the fifteenth anniversary of the asylum dispersal programme. People who have sought asylum in the UK have been dispersed throughout the country often away from community connections leaving people at risk of social and cultural isolation. The project will raise awareness of their struggles and celebrate women who have flourished despite these difficulties.
Through Arts Council funding, Pod Collective have led art, print and writing workshops with women affected by the dispersal programme throughout Greater Manchester. The participants were given the space to share their stories of their life in the UK culminating in the publishing of a newspaper distributed in conjunction with International Women’s Month. This newspaper has given the participants a platform for their voices to be heard in galleries, pop-up exhibitions and events in Manchester.
