Carolyn Corfield’s eclectic sculptural pieces for this event dwell on memories, secrets and opulence, aspects inherent in the 1,000 year old history of Gray’s Court which originally was part of the complex associated with York Minster. Currently a much sought after wedding venue, this Hotel functions as a truly atmospheric place to dine or stay whilst visiting York, with its wood panelled rooms, stone interiors and beautiful gardens sighted from the city walls. Echo’s Edge is a contemporary exhibition by Cluster Arts members Carolyn Corfield, Vera Hynes, Michael Kusz and Graeme Rowatt whose work comprises ceramic & metal sculpture, painting and photography. This fusion of their art is on view throughout the public rooms and gardens. Carolyn has set out to illuminate the history of Gray’s Court with a nod to its contemporary aspects and activities. Among her thirty sculptures on display ‘Chandelier of Secrets’ in glass and porcelain and a beribboned ‘Delft Bride’ in blue glazed porcelain delight the eye. Leading through halls and corridors into the dining areas and library, opulently glazed pieces placed to catch the afternoon sun, especially her piece ‘Dressed to Impress’, recall the finery of grandeurs past and present. This combination of historic building and contemorary art provides food for thought as well as the table. Do visit to enjoy!
