Edwin Mingard
Artist-in-Residence at Digital Artist Residency
== 10th June – 10th Sept 2017==
http://www.digitalartistresidency.org
Edwin Mingard works principally with moving image, making standalone artists’ films and
installations. His work often takes on mainstream and accessible forms – documentary, music video,
glossy magazine. The intertwining strands of technological and social change are central to his work.
Our society is in the middle of a fundamental, technology-driven social change; Mingard’s practice explores that change in a way that is open, involving humour and play.
The digital residencies provide an online space for artists to develop works, ideas and practices. Digital Artist Residency is an online platform which provides space for digital artists to create and display new artwork. The initiative aims to provide support for artwork created using digital processes, exploring the boundaries of art and technology.
Overnight by Edwin Mingard is a specially created archive and a short artists’ moving image work in conjunction with the Journeys to Oxford exhibition at the Museum of Oxford. From June to August the artist will be working to develop the digital piece, the process of which will be documented on www.digitalartistresidency.org and the finished work displayed at Museum of Oxford in September. The artist will interview communities of recent migrants to Oxford and create a online archive with a film work that responds to that archive. This piece of work builds upon previous experience using print or moving image to collaboratively explore the experience of migrating.
