neo:studios is pleased to announce the opening of an exciting solo exhibition by Israeli artist Yoav Ruda, curated by Artist/Curator Mike Chavez-Dawson. You are warmly invited to the preview which is from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm on Saturday 31st May. “Entrance through the Emergency Exit” is a personal and associative reference to the power dynamics in the contemporary art scene and the new alternatives to the art establishment. The works refer to the traditional gatekeepers and the new breaches in the art world firewall occurring via street art, new media and online connectivity. Yoav’s work animates street art images and characters, creating a hybrid of streetwise and new technology art. The exhibition includes videos that feature original Spoken Word texts, auto narrated by Text to Speech software. This technique brings the contemporary urban language and vibrations of the street to the art sphere. The videos also utilize Projection Photography where HD video footage is projected on textures and objects and recaptured again on camera. The technique gives the video images concrete, physical attributes. Yoav was a prize winner in the neo:artprize 2013 and will be travelling to Bolton to organise this exhibition and be present at the preview.
