Exhibition Matters is a seminar series accompanying the exhibition ‘Silent Explosion: Ivor Davies and Destruction in Art’ at National Museum Cardiff.
In conversation with her guests, and in the presence of the artist, Judit Bodor, co-curator and doctoral researcher of ‘Silent Explosion’, explores the internal processes of exhibition making in museums especially when it comes to presenting 1960s performances alongside art objects in traditional media.
The seminars will build on the experience of a three-year process of preparing the exhibition to explore how archival and curatorial practice, the institutional context of the museum, the nature and materiality of artworks exhibited and the close working relationship with a live artist together influenced the presentation and mediation of historical and intentionally destructive artworks in contemporary museum context.
The aim of these seminars is to investigate the importance of the mediation and exhibition process in our understanding of contemporary art. They also made publicly available the research undertaken as part of an AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award between Aberystwyth University and Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.
Judit Bodor is an independent curator, researcher and educator currently Associate Tutor at the MFA Fine Art at Cardiff College of Art and Design and doctoral researcher at Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University.
