Hans Borgonjon is creating a wall of porcelain faces at the Silk Mill which will consist of life cast portraits from a cross section of the people of Frome. The exhibition intends to stimulate interaction between the artist, the public and the art work itself. “The faces on show will be anonymous but perhaps familiar to us. They may be people that we have passed in the street but not really noticed before.” Hans explains. “It is quite easy to live a solitary life or be part of the same safe group of friends and family. For an artist it is important to interact with your surroundings – for me, this is a kind of ‘Facebook’ made real. By taking these casts I come face to face with people that I don’t know.” In an age of social networking where we may never meet our online ‘friend’, ‘Facebook’ Frome raises the question of what it really means to relate to another person. relationships through real life portraits. Some of the portraits will be cast as a 3D negative, which will give the illusion of animation – they will appear to be following the viewer as they move around the exhibition.Podcast:http://www.hansborgonjon.co.uk/podcasts/ Or my blog: http://www.hansborgonjon.co.uk/wordpress/
