Susanne Baumann presents her first solo exhibition: “Fading Echoes” – a poignant and thought-provoking collection of paintings, created between 2022 and now.
She invites you to an intimate exploration of what makes someone present, and the silence and empty spaces they leave behind when they are not.
“Fading Echoes” is more than an exhibition; it is an intimate narrative of Baumann’s personal odyssey through the labyrinth of grief and memory. The artist’s father’s 20-year-long battle with Alzheimer’s has left an indelible mark, shaping her in profound ways. This deeply personal struggle forms the core of Baumann’s current work, as she endeavours to visually express the slow and heartbreaking process of witnessing a loved one slowly fade away.
Baumann’s art delves into her experience of absence – not just as a void but as a tangible presence. Her paintings evoke the quiet murmurs of memories; the remnants of a presence that lingers, long after the people we knew are gone. Each piece is an acknowledgement of the continuous passage of time and the way it erodes memory, identity, and our connections to those we love.
“Fading Echoes” is driven by the question: What remains of us when we slowly but surely disappear – is it just echoes of ourselves?
Exhibition has been extended until 23rd November 2024.
